What does the Cpk (process capability) index number mean for the average worker and manager toiling in different countries and cultures in different economic, political and social environments and contexts?
Cpk is the Process Capability Index is a statistical tool to measure the ability of a process to produce output within consumer's Specification Limits. Cpk is a standard index to state the capability of one process, the higher the Cpk index value the better the process is. Cpk is used to estimate how close we are to a given target and how consistent we are to around our average performance. Cpk that is less than 1.33 needs some action to make it higher. Cpk less than 1.0 means that the process is not capable of meeting its requirements. The standard Cpk level is 2.0 for a process in six sigma quality control. Cpk tells us what the process is capable of doing in future, assuming it remains in a state of statistical control.
