1. Why is it necessary to position the sample tube right next to the thermometer bulb in the Thiele tube?

2. The normal boiling point of benzene is 80 degrees C. What is the vapor pressure of benzene at 80 degrees C?

3. Define boiling point. How does this definition describe what is occurring in micro-boiling point determination method i.e. that the boiling point is the temperature at which the liquid levels inside and outside of the capillary tube are the same?

ANSWER:

Boiling point determination is carried out using Thiele s tube since the design Thiele s tube helps in the passage of uniform temperature throughout the oil.

The convention currents set up in the tube as heating starts.The side arm helps in the generation of the convention currents.The entire oil in the tube gets uniformly heated

The sample is placed in a small tube ,right next to the thermometer,so that the temperature at which  the first bubble appears is clearly noted in the thermometer. This helps in the accurate boiling point determination.
