Write a memo to your supervisor that provides some analysis as to how the culture in your department differs from and creates friction with another department. In your memo, please communicate these differences respectfully and show that, in considering the cultural differences between your departments, you recognize how these differences might provide opportunities for the organization (200 - 250 words)

Re: Cultural disconnect with our department and the rest of the organization

The purpose of this memorandum is to bring to your notice the current cultural conflict that exists between our department (Finance) and the rest of the organization. As you may already be aware of certain aspects of the conflict, I would like to tell you that I have looked into certain events from the past six months and have realized certain situations that are mentioned below.

Our organization works as a flat hierarchy. As a result there is very casual approach to work at times. This culture is often expected by the other department employees from Finance department as well. However, in finance we are often guided by strong principles and rules that prevent us from being flexible. This in return paints us as “non-cooperative” among the other employees and departments.

Many of the employees, department leaders and the heads do not understand the government regulation that we work under and why there is no flexibility in such matters. For example, taxation deadlines are not in our control.

Our training and development team usually does not cover the cultural difference in working between finance and other departments. We could bridge some of the wrong expectations using some kind of cross cultural training targeted to inter department issues.

I hope you will look into these matters and take it up with the relevant department heads.
