The five basic steps would be of the hypothesis test.

Step 1: Identify the hypothesis, where u is the population mean of the number of light bulbs per household that function as designed

H0: u = certain value vs H1: u not equal a certain value

Step 2: Identify the distribution of the test statistic

Since population standard deviation is unknown, and if the sample size of our study<30, then the distribution would be t n-1 distribution Calculate the sample statistics

Sample mean and sample standard deviation from the dataset

Step 3: Calculate the test statistic

(Sample mean- u)/(Sample SD/√n)

Step 4: Calculate the p-value of the test statistic

Step 5: Compare the p-value of the test statistic to the significance level and then make the decision (Accept/Reject the null hypothesis) and make the conclusion.
