  1. The NIH advises women ages 19 to 50 to consume 1,000 milligrams per day of Calcium, which is nearly impossible without dairy. But the World Health Organization suggests just 400 to 500 mg of calcium per day for all adults, or roughly the amount you'll get if your meals include kale, beans, oatmeal, tofu, broccoli, or other calcium fortified foods like orange juice.

The calcium requirement for men and women ages between 25 and 65 is 1000mg per day and for all others ages over 65 is 1500mg per day. Calcium is required for muscle function, vascular contraction, nerve transmission etc. It is the most abundant mineral in the body. 99% of the calcium supplied to the body is stored in bones and teeth for supporting their functions.

The data set by the World Health Organization (WHO) at an earlier stage and it has been revised by the National Institute of Health (NIH), which is one of the world's foremost medical research centres. NIH has increased the calcium requirement for adults from 500mg to 1000mg considering the increasing osteoporosis problems all over the world. Osteoporosis is a disease of bone weakening and it increases the risk of bone fracture. Dairy products such as milk, cheese, yoghurt are rich sources of calcium and NIH recommends increasing the consumption of dairy products. A book called "Baby matters" by Linda Folden Palmer clearly citing this information.
