1, Legal health record and designated record set need HIPAA privacy rule.
Legal health record has an entire patient database. legal health record varies as per health organizations. it has documentation of health care services and contains patient data, documentation of health status. EHR system generates relevant information.
The designated record set is a group of records under the HIPAA privacy rule and maintains a covered entity. it includes patient medical and billing records. It has individual data stored on any medium for patient health status documents. example: wave files, X-ray images. it is broader than legal health records due to the storage of all protected health information.
2, Length of times we can keep records depend on action, expense or event of the records. limitations are the period of times when tax retains to claim a credit. records can be retained for 3 years from the date filed the original return or if we file a claim for credit. A taxpayer can retain some records for longer period, not more than seven years.
3, Standard record retention schedule that providers and organization should follow under AHIMAs retention recommendation record retention schedule should ensure patient health information to meet the needs of patient care, needs, education and use of the organization and the storage medium which maintained, must include destruction policies and procedures that information is maintained. AHIMA recommendation record retention needs 10 years after the most recent encounter.
4, Licensure:
It is the state's grant of legal authority state's legal power, practice profession within designated scope of practice. example RN licensure is a grant made by the legal authority for doing the legal work at the hospital.
Certification:
It is the process of non-governmental organization recognition of individuals to meet the predetermined qualification mentioned by the organization. example: certification as a teacher or nurse before they start doing their job.
Accreditation:
It is the process of credibility obtained formally from an authorized person, officially recognized and accepted. Example: Newyork university is the school accreditated by the US department of education.
