Ideally patient with lower limb injuries should be carried using a Transport Stretcher Trolley.
This will ensure that there is no further damage to the injured site due to weight bearing.
Before transport cover open fractures with some wet sterile gauze.
Also check for any obvious bleeding; a tourniquet may be used if any open wounds are bleeding.
If a fracture is suspected then stabilize thesite with a pillow splint, air splint, or bulky cast dressing before transporting patient. Try to immobilize the ankle in a neutral position if possible but avoid excessive handling.
Immobilization helps decrease pain, bleeding, and damage to surrounding soft tissue.
