Answer #1

Patient details:

My patient is a 42-year-old Caucasian female who presented to the emergency department with complaints of nausea, shortness of breath and productive cough. She has a history of smoking and alcohol use.

Other complaints:

She also complained of loss of appetite, intermittent fever and night sweats since three weeks.

Tests ordered:

Her chest X-ray results showed bilateral cavitary lung lesions.

Next tests planned:

She will be undergoing Mantoux tuberculin skin test (TST), sputum smear and culture analysis to rule out active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB).

Further diagnostic tests:

Once the TB is ruled out, she will be referred for detailed lung biopsy in consultation with pulmonary and interventional radiology experts to check for any possible lung cancer.
