Answer #1

A pelvic sonography is a noninvasive diagnostic procedure that produces images, used for assessing the organs and structures in the pelvis. Ultrasound transduces and sends out ultrasound waves at a frequency too high so that it is not heard. The ultrasound transducer is placed on the skin, and the ultrasound waves move through the body to the organs and structures within. The sound waves bounce from the organs producing an echo and returning to the transducer. The reflected waves are processed by the transducer which is then converted into an image of the organs or tissues being examined by a computer.
