G. Pizza digestion

My digestion started from the mouth. Teeth crushed and grinded me and mixed with saliva for easy swallowing. Digestive enzyme in the saliva called amylase initiated the break down of carbohydrate. From the mouth,I reached to the stomach through a muscular tube in the chest called esophagus. Esophageal sphincter opened for me to enter the stomach. After a while, it get closed to prevent my return movement. Then I mixed with digestive juices that have enzymes and acids and broken me into small digestible pieces.

By the time I am ready to leave the stomach , I am processed into a thick liquid called chyme for easy absorption by the small intestine. This small intestine has 3 parts duodenum, Jejunum and ileum. The inner wall of the small intestine covered with finger- like projection called Villi absorbed my nutrients into the blood. From the small intestine I moved to large intestine for the final process. Large intestine consists of 3 parts. Cecum, colon and rectum. By this time, the absorption of nutrients is nearly finished. The large intestine water and solid waste from undigested food. The rectum stored the waste food as feces and expelled it through the anus.
