Answer #1

Answer: Pulmonary function test includes spirometry which measures how much air can be inhale and exhale, and how fast person can blow the air out of lungs. The therapist will place a clip on patient's nose to prevent air from leaking out and then make him to breathe through a mouthpiece connected to a computer that will measure and record results. The therapist while performing this procedure makes sure that the patient is comfortable and does not have any discomfort. The therapist may also perform tests that measure how lungs respond to outside factors such as exercise, medications etc. Patient should not eat a heavy meal right before the test, and avoid caffeinated foods or drinks and also should not smoke or exercise six hours before the test.
