Under- served area/ population , refers to population that are disadvantaged because of ability to access care, ability to pay , ability to access comprehensive health care or other disparities for reasons of race, religion and language, group or social status.
In US, economically disadvantaged people are vulnerable population and they are mostly underserved. . Also racial and ethnic minorities, children from low income family, HIV patients, elderly and patients with mental illness are mostly underserved area of population.
Area of speciality :
Mental health (nursing)/ Psychiatry is an area of interest. One of the major category of underserved population is severely affected mental ill people. Adolescent children , those who are more or prone to sustance abuse and mental illness in future, are also an excellent field for service and care giving. There are inadequacy for staff and volunteers in the field of Mental health.
By assisting the adolescent children or high school students in their confusions, identity crisis, initial stage of substance abuse, role changes, physical growth ( I can) help them to grow as a good personality, strong citizen of the country, who can take healthy decisions for their life.
Helping the mentally ill people make them to gain insight to their mental illness and the need for treatment. It is a great service , if a man blind to reality or a mind lost person, comes back to normal life with the help of our presence, skilled communication and other therapies.
The area of Mental health services is an area, that need more attention as a percentage of 19 US population is suffering with any form of Mental illness .
