IT is important to think strategically when it comes to administering human resources because the company wants to track ideas, keep up with goals and plans as well as document failures and success of strategic plans that are implemented. It's important to access all the needs of the organization and strategic planning allows that to happen.
One challenge to strategic planning is some human resource departments fail to look at the long term goals and will build a plan based on right now. I have witnessed many human resource departments make changes based on the needs of management but failed to build these changes based on long term goals. As a result the organization losses money and must begin a new strategic plan to re-gain any monetary benefits form new ideas.
Not having a strategic plan, not correctly building the plan or no long term goals with regards to the plan, can ultimately cost an organization.
