Congestive heart failure is a chronic progressive disease which affects the pumping system of the heart. It simply notified as heart failure , that means fluid builds up on the heart,, there by affecting the pumping muscles of the heart .

Causes :The pumping system gets affected due to fluid accumulation. The risk factors for developing CHF are hypertension , coronary artery disease, valvular disorders etc

Signs and symptoms : fatigue, chest pain, cough,, swelling over ankles, lower extremities, weight gain , wheeze and pulmonary edema.

Definition, possible teaching time 3 mins

Causes - 5 minutes

Signs and symptoms - 5 minutes

Teaching aid- power point presentation. We can show slides and pictures related to CHF.

Teaching activities are discussion,, teaching , explaining

Learning activities are listening, discussing,, observing

Nursing diagnosis :

Pain, chest pain related to fluid accumulation in the lungs and heart.

Rational is due to fluid accumulation,, patient will develop chest pain.

Fluid volume excess related to fluid accumulation and weight gain  

Rational is definitely fluid level is increased in the body results in weight gain .
