The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) is a federal law that requires anyone coming to an emergency department to be stabilized and treated, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. Conservatives and Republicans: What do you think about EMTALA?
* In my view EMALA is a very useful federal law because,
* It protect the right of individual to seek care in life threatning conditions.
* This law make the hospital to act immediately and start examination and
treatment to patient who came into the emergency department instead of
delaying time for checking patients insurance coverage, citizenship or legal
status.
* As per EMALA act if the hospital determine a person has an EMC(emergency
medical condition) the hospital should give further treatment and care untill the
EMC is resolved or stabilized.
* Based on EMALA a hospital should transfer an emergency care required patient to
other hospital if the current treating hospital is incapable (lack of equipments, specialists)
of treating the patient.
