1) Come up with TWO other methods of ranking Olympic countries that
would result in different countries (other than the U.S.) at the
top. State your new ranking criteria. If your method includes medal
type, then give the resulting order. If you method involves a
related factor(s) obtained from outside sources, then you may
indicate/speculate on the order (or just leave it blank).
2) The Olympic committee NEVER announces the country that is the
overall winner of the games. Give at least TWO plausible reasons
for this practice/policy?
1. If we order the Olympic countries on the basis of the number of Gold medals won then USA would not attain first spot. The arrangement would then be.
i. China
ii. USA
iii. Australia
iv. Zimbabwe
v. Bahamas
Also if we order the countries according to their population size, then USA would not be on top. China is the most populated country in the world and therefore it will be at the top.
2. The Olympic committee never announces the country that is the overall winner of the games because
i. There was no clearly stated rule for the scoring system that would determine an overall winner.
ii. There were certain games in which very few countries participated,if any, other than Great Britain.
