Q2. (50 pts) The architect for Ocean World is beginning to formulate plans for the development of property outside Waco, Texas, for a second marine theme park after the success of its Neptune’s Realm on the West Coast. Because of the hot and humid Texas weather during the summer months, ways to minimize the visitors’ total travel distance between attractions are being considered. They are planning to build six major attractions similar to Neptune’s Realm:

A – Killer Whale, B – Sea Lions, C – Dolphins, D – Water Skiing, E – Aquarium, F – Water Rides

Data showing a typical day’s flow of visitors between attractions at San Diego are provided below and will be used in the layout planning.

Answer the following questions to help Ocean World to design a layout for their theme park.

a) Use Planet Method B to determine a sequence of the attractions to lay on your layout. Show your work.

b) By using the sequence you found in part (a), design a layout for the attractions by using distance-based scoring and rectilinear distances. Assume that the cost of movement between each pair of attraction is the same. Show each step you go through to design your layout. Do not forget to explicitly show your resulting layout and the resulting distance based score.

Note: For this part, when you are searching for the best location to locate the next department, you can just compare 3 possible locations instead of comparing upto 8 possible locations. Make sure that you choose these 3 locations meaningfully.

c) Estimate the distance based score of the final layout you found in part (b) by using Euclidean distances.

PLEASE SHOW YOUR WORK AND TRY TO AVOID CALCULATION MISTAKES
