Insulin is given to the patients with disbetes to regulate the blood sugar levels. The insulin concentration is measured in USP Insulin units or USP insulin human units.
a) If the patient is prescribed a mixture of two insulins containing a regular insulin, then the regular insulin should be drawn up first.
b) Three type of syringes are available in market : 3/10cc, 1/2cc and 1cc. 3/10 cc is used for people taking insulin less than 30 units, 1/2cc for 50 units or less and 1cc for more than 50 units.
The total units of insulin in the above question should be 47 units. So we can use 1/2cc syringe. The below diagram indicates the unit of insulin. Each marking is taken as 1 reading.
