Answer #1

ANSWER

9. a. Calculation of amount of units of NPH give.

Formula = Dose desired / Dose in hand * quantity.

                      Dose desired (D) = 45 units.

                      Dose in hand (H) = 1000 units.

                           Quantity (Q)    = 10 mL.

        As per formula

               Units of NPH will give = D / H * Q

                    = 45 / 1000 * 10

                            = 0.045 * 10

                              = 0.45 ml ( 45 units).

b. Calculation of units of regular insulin will give.

Formula = Desired dose / Dose in hand * Quantity.

                      Desired dose (D) = 24 units.

                      Dose in hand (H) = 1000 units.

                             Quantity (Q) = 10 mL.

              As per formula

                  Units of regular insulin will give = D / H * Q

                                                                           = 24 / 1000 * 10

                                                                           = 0.024 * 10

                                                                           = 0.24 mL.(24 units.)

c.Total units of insulin will give using a 100 unit insulin syringe.

Total units of insulin needed = Regular insulin + NPH

                                                                      = 24 units + 45 units

                                                                   = 69 units.( 0.69 ml)

       * Mark 69 units between 68 and 70 units on the 100 unit insulin syringe.

10. Calculation of number of acetaminophen required.

Formula = Desired dose * Dose in hand * Quantity.

                     Desired dose (D) = 650 mg.

                     Dose in hand (H) = 325 mg.

                            Quantity (Q) = 1 tablet.

          As per formula

            Number of acetaminophen tablet needed = D / H *Q

                                                                                   = 650 / 325 * 1

                                                                                     = 2 tablets.

11.Calculation of amount of sedatives(ml) administered.

Formula = Desired dose / Dose in hand * Quantity.

                 Desired dose (D) = 10mg.

                 Dose in hand (H) = 5 mg.

                     Quantity (Q) = 1ml.

       As per formula

            Amount of medication(ml) administered = D / H * Q

                                                                                  = 10 / 5 * 1

                                                                                  = 2 * 1

                                                                                  = 2 ml.
