Pharmacodynamics is the study of actions of the drugs on the body and their mechanisms of actions, i.e. to know what drugs do and how they do it.

Drugs produce their effects by interacting with the physiological systems of the organisms. By such interaction, drugs merely modify the rate of functions of the various systems.

Ion Channels are proteins present on the cell surface. Binding of the agonist opens the channel allowing ions to cross the membranes. These are called ligand -gated ion channels and the ion channel acts as the target for the drugs. Depending on the ion and the channel, depolarisation / hyper polarisation occurs.
