Pharmacodynamics (PD) is the study of the biochemical and physiologic effects of drugs (especially pharmaceutical drugs). The effects can include those manifested within animals (including humans), microorganisms, or combinations of organisms (for example, infection).

Osmosis results when two different concentrations of molecules are separated by a semi-permeable membrane. Molecules can move from areas of high concentration to low concentration. Some drugs can also be largely adsorbent and bind to many materials in the body. This is another type of physical action.
