Solution-1:

Hypothesis testing for 2 means:

when data is given about 2 groups

if the quantitative variable is given and their means,standard deviations given and if you find words

test for significant difference in means or averages between 2 groups

Then perform t test for difference in means.

Ex Tests average scores of men and women in Grade-8 are same

Data is given like

men:

sample mean=x1bar=65

sample standard deviation =s1=5

sample size=n1=30

For women:

sample mean=x2bar=55

sample standard deviation =s2=23

sample size,n2=30

Perform t test for difference in means as it clearly stated test for significant difference in means.

Solution-2:

Hypothesis testing for 2 proportions:

if the data given about 2 groups if they give x out of y

and if they state that Test for the claim for significant difference in proportions or percentages

For

If they say that percentages of smoking in men and women are equal

data is 23 out of 50 in men smoke and

25 out of 50 women smoke .

here x1=23

n1=50

x2=25

n2=50

so set hypothesis as

Ho:p1=p2

Ha:p1 not = p2

calculate z and p and then conclude
