Solution:

The observed value of pH for HCl is lower than CH3COOH suggest low ionization of CH3COOH. Thus, CH3COOH is weaker acid than HCl.

HCl = H+ + Cl- ( complete ionization)

CH3COOH + H2O = CH3COO- + H3O+ (partial ionization)

>> Since, HCl is stronger acid than CH3COOH, hence its pH is lowest. Therefore, pH changes sharply for HCl on dillution than CH3COOH.

HCl + H2O. = H+ + Cl- ( completely ionized)
