Answer #1

Advance directive is a document that indicates ,in written about the choices of treatment you want and those you don't want or about who will make health are decision for you if you become incapacitated and cannot express your wishes . Treatment of the patient does not depend upon the advance directive and it will be provided even if the patient has or does not have a advance directive .

When patients don't have a advanced directives ,then the physician generally looks to patients family ,friends ,clergy for decisions about the patient care and if the hospital is unable to locate the family , they may ask the court to appoint a person who will act as a guardian and make decisions for the patient .

An ethics consultation may be offered to help determine your goals and values in the absence of an advance directive .
