GI preparation of polyethylene glycol

         * Before doing endoscopic procedures in the gastrointestinal system like

           colonoscopy polyethylene glycol is used to empty the colon for effective

           examination inside structures of the intestine.

         * Polyethylene glycol 3350 is a commonly used in GI preparation.

         * During the preparation of polyehtylene glycol use a measuring line on the bottle

           cap to measure a single dose.(one heaping tablespoon).

        * Then use water or juices to mix with polyethylene glycol powder to make a 4L of

           of bowel preparation solution.

        * Poltehylene glycol solution can given as a single dose preparation or split dose

           preparation.

        * In single dose preparation giving 8 ounces of prepared polyehtylene glycol solution

           every 10 minutes for a total of 4L solution.

        * In split dose preparation giving 8 ounces of prepared solution every 10 minutes (3 liters)

           at the evening before colonoscopy and remaining 1 litre given in morning at the day of

       colonoscopy.

         * It act by retaining water in the bowel so the stool become soften and easily passed out

           from the intestine .
