Water and soil are the two mediums that are most widely and most likely to contaminated by organic solvents. This is because these are the places which are in direct contact with the effluents from the industries, the soil is contaminated when the solvents leach out or get absorbed from the water, the air is contaminated directly by the solvent vapors or by  volatilization from water or soil. Since volatility decreases with increase in molecular weight higher molecular weight solvents would not be present in air and would be present in water and soil.
