1.The level of certification dictates the number of CEUs required per two-year cycle: CCA, CCS, and CCS-P require 20 CEUs in addition to two self-assessments per cycle. RHIA, CHDA, CHP, and CHS each require 30 CEUs. The RHIT requirement is 20 CEUs.

While the pathway to becoming an RHIT varies by region and experience, here is one possible way to join this growing profession: Step 1: Graduate from high school or earn a GED. Step 2: Earn a CAHIIM-accredited associate degree or bachelor's degree in health information management or a related discipline (2-4 years).
