For each of the following pairs, choose the substance with thehigher entropy per mole at a given temperature: (a) Ar(...

For each of the following pairs, choose the substance with thehigher entropy per mole at a given
temperature:
(a) Ar(l) orAr(g)
(b) He (g) at 3 atm pressure or He(g) at 4.5 atm pressure
(c) 1 mol of H2O(g) in 15.0 L or 1 mol of H2O(g) in 1.50L.
(d) 1 mol of O2(g) and 1 mol ofN2(g).
(e) 1 mol CH4 (g) and 1 mol C3H8 (g)
(f) Why 1 mol of HCl(g) has more entropy than 1 mol of Ar(g) at 298K?

Answer #1
a) Ar(g) has more entropy than Ar(l). Because gases has morerandomness and entropy than luiquids.
b)He (g) at 3 atm pressure has more entropy than He(g) at 4.5atm pressure . Entropy decreases with increasing pressure becauserandomness decreases with incraesing pressure.
c) 1 mol of H2O(g) in 15.0 L has more entropy than 1 mol of H2O(g)in 1.50L. If the volume increases then randomness alsoincreases. Hence entropy is more for 1 mol of H2O(g) in 15.0L.
