Special Health needs represent the individual who requires assistance for disabilities. Some of these special population have vision problem who require special health needs in ophthalmology.
Down syndrome is a chromosomal disorder present in babies. Almost 80% of the down syndrome babies are affected with visionary problems of strabismus, nystagmus, cataract, blepharitis, eyelid ptosis. This will further impact the functional disabilities of the children. They require proper vision screening and correction of vision problem.
ADHD, Dyslexia, cerebral palsy are neurological disorders who require periodic screening of vision with the ophthalmologist. If they failed to meet the screening test, require special attention and correction of vision problem.
Autism disorder children have a vision problem of side viewing, maintaining eye contact, strabismus. A proper eye examination is essential to know their level of visual function.
