What are the ethical and legal responsibilities of the nurse who believes a home care patient needs to be cared for in a hospital or that a home care patient needs to continue to receive care and not be discharged from the service?

For the nurse in traditional medical setting ,ethical and legal responsibilities of nurse will help the nurse to to escape from legal issues .

Nurse can made the decisions about care delivery ,caring ,patient advocacy in planning and providing safe patient care .

Patient in the home care ,he or she can expect the comfort and helathy environment and quality care from the nurse ,not only this patient can have the physical ,emotional ,psychological ,spiritual comfort from the nurse and family members . But in the hospital patient cannot get all the apportunities ( restrictions for visitors ) .

Some of the ethical and legal responsibilities of nurse : there are 6 ethical principles will have importance in care of patient ,those are

  • Respect for patient ( autonomy and self determination )
  • Beneficience ( doing good to patient as well as organisation )
  • Non mal eficience ( avoiding harm to patient )
  • Justice ( fairness ,equitability and truthfulness about duty .)
  • Veracity ( remaining faithful to one's commitment)
  • Nurse must respect the dignity and value the patient and colleagues and treat the patients equally regardless of personal attributes or medical condition .
  • Commitment to patient : one of the nurse primary ethical responsibilities is to work with patient to provide care that maximally enables the physical ,emotional and social wellbeing of patient and advocating for patient safety and rights ,especially in terms of upholding the highest standards of patient privacy and confidenciality according to law.
  • Honesty and self integrity: to be honest with patient to maintain self integrity and high the personal moral standards
  • Nurse should do her work as per duty to avoid legal issues .
  • Nurse should monitor the patient properly .
  • Nurse should check the vital signs and document the any adverse events to escape from legal issues .
  • Nurse should maintain therapeutic reationship with patient .
  • Nurse should not involve in personal matters of patient .
  • Nurse should follow the hospital policies ensure the quality of care to patient .
  • Nurse should record everything about patient health conditions ,any procedures and about medications and treatment to avoid ethical issues .
