Boron has electronic configuration 1s22s22p1 , number of valence shell electrons are 3. Boron forms many trivalent compounds like BF3, BCl3 etc and has incomplete octets .

Answer:

The exceptions to the octet rule may refer to compounds that have odd number of valence electrons . For example, boron compounds tend to form with only 6 valence electrons and some compounds that have more than 6 valence electrons .
