Answer #1

The patient weighs 49 kg and has an

order for 160 mcg of medication to be infused in 81 mL of IV solution.

The drop rate is 41 gtts/min with

tubing delivering 15 gtts/mL.

How many mcg/kg/min will the patient recieve?

= 160 mcg/49 kg

Volume (mL)

Time (min)

x Drop Factor (gtts/mL)  = Y (Flow Rate in gtts/min)

= 3.265mcg/kg/29.6341463 min

81 ml x 15 gtts/mL = 41 gtts/min x time

81 ml x 15 gtts/mL/41 gtts/min = time

= 1215/41

= 29.6341463 min

= 3.265mcg/kg/29.6341463 min

= 0.110 mcg/kg/ min
