Concepts and reason

This problem is based on the concept of right-hand thumb rule.

First, apply Fleming’s left-hand rule and find out the north magnetic pole.

Fundamentals

The direction of magnetic field always occurs from north magnetic pole to south magnetic pole.

Fleming’s Left-hand rule: When the thumb, forefinger and middle finger are stretched as they are perpendicular to each other. If the forefinger shows the direction of magnetic field and the middle finger shows the direction of the current then the thumb of the left-hand shows the direction of the force.

The diagram of magnets and wire is given as,

Cross secton of wire; current
directed out of screen
Direction in
which wire
deflects

On the basis of Fleming’s left-hand rule, take the left-hand thumb towards the dashed box D in the direction of deflection and take the middle finger in the direction of current (out of the screen) then the forefinger represents the direction of magnetic field which points towards box A.

The direction of the magnetic field will be in the direction from north to south. Here the forefinger points in towards box C. Thus the direction of the magnetic field will be in the direction from dashed box C to A. Therefore, the dashed box C represents the position of north magnetic pole.

Ans:

The dashed box C represents the north magnetic pole.
