Correctional nurses are those specialized nurses who take care for the medical and mental health needs of the detainees and inmates . These nurses mainly work in a variety of setting such as Jails, Prisons and Juvenile detention centres. In those places, nurses are the primary healthcare providers.They work as Reception Screening, Chronic Care Clinicians, Medication Administration and Ambulatory care.All inmates new to the institution are evaluated by a nurse prior to being installed into their housing unit.Through this process nurse screen inmates who have mental illness, drug addicts, alcoholic, trauma, infectious diseases and chronic diseases.

Through inmate statistics nurses get all information about how many inmates have health issues ,mental illness, drug addicts, alcoholic ,Robbery , sex offenses. Accordingly these nurses provide healthcare services in Jails, prison, Juvenile detention centres by providing proper medication and care .These nurses also provide counselling services to drug addicts, sex offenders, Robbers time to time.Nurses also provide services to the inmate suffering from chronic diseases such as Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension through proper assessment and education.
