The star Sirius has celestial coordinates 6 hours 45 minutes RA and -16 degrees 43 minutes declination. Explain what these coordinates mean and where you would expect to find it in the sky. [
The first coordinate is the right accession (RA) coordinate, it is like longitude measure in the sky. There is a 0 hour line marked by Sun at March equinox, it is then measured along the celestial equator which then gives the value of RA for a particular star. The second coordinate is the declination coordinate, it is like the latitude measure in the sky. It is same as the Earth's equator being projected to the celestial sphere. +ve declination means that the star is in Northern hemisphere and -ve declination means that the star is in Southern Hemisphere. Since here the star coordinate has a -ve declination, it implies that the star is in Southern Hemisphere. For RA based location estimation, we need to know from where the coordinates have been measured. But from declination we can be sure that the star is in the southern hemisphere.

(16 minutes) The function below has 4 errors. It has two integer parameters representing the time in hours and minutes. It should add one to the minutes, unless the minutes value is 59, in which case it should set the minutes to 0 and add one to the hours. Changes to either parameter should change the corresponding variable argument from the function call. The function should also calculate the total number of minutes (60 times the hours plus the minutes)...

Thus, the expected time waiting is 5/6 hours (or 50 minutes) (Note that it is wrong to reason like this: Alice expects to arrive at 12:30, Bob expects to arrive at 1:00: thus, we expeet that Bob will wait 30 mimutes for Alice.) (b). We want to compute the probability that Bob has to wait for Alice, which is P(Y < X), which we do by integrating the joint density, f(r,y), over the region where <...
