Answer #1

As mentioned I am focusing on 2nd pic

2H + Y ------> H2Y

A) Since, Y has 6 valence electrons hence Y belongs to group 16.

B) Y already have 6 valence electrons and hence only 2 electrons are needed for Y to complete 8 electrons (octate).

Therefore, Y forms 2 sigma bonds (single bonds) with H atoms to complete its octate.

C) Unshared electrons of Y = 4 i.e. 2 electron pairs

Shared electrons of Y = 2 , i.e. 1 electron pair

Shared electrons of 2 H atoms = 2 (1 + 1) = 1 electron pair

i.e. 1 electron of individual H atom

Total shared electrons in product = 2 + 2 = 4 i.e. 2 electron pairs.

D) Since, bonds are formed by electron sharing and hence bonds are covalent bond in product.

Let me know in case of any doubts.
