Answer: In sonophoresis medication usually consists of hydrophilic molecules and macromolecules which involves method of drug delivery where ultrasound is used to increase the absorption of topical compounds into the epidermis, dermis and skin appendages. Sonophoresis equipment consists of a piezoelectric crystal and a coupling medium and it is operated at intensities of 0.5 to 2 W/cm2.

There are many important factors that have to be considered when preparing pharmaceutical gels such as:

  • Skin hydration
  • Skin temperature
  • Skin integrity
  • Penetration enhancer.
  • Occlusivity
  • Drug concentration
