In line drawing only hetroatoms (atoms other than C and H) are shown. In 3-D structure, bonds lie above the plane is shown by solid bond and that lie below the plane by dashed bond. Bond which lie in the plane will be shown by normal bond.

In cis- structure, same groups lie on same side and in trans-, same groups lie in opposite side.
