Answer #1
Concepts and reason

Polar bond is formed between the atoms with different electron negativities. Non-polar covalent bond will be formed between the atoms that have same electron negativities.

Identify the atoms involved in the bond, and also identify the more electronegativity atoms in the particular bond.

The difference in electron negativity between the atoms is the reason for the bond polarity. The bond polarity is represented by the symbol arrow mark \to . The arrow is towards the more electronegative atom of the bond.

Fundamentals

A chemical bond that formed between atoms with unequal sharing of electrons leads to formation of positive and negative charges on the atoms. The phenomenon is called as bond polarity.

Halogens that are Group 7A elements of the periodic table are more electronegative in nature.

In the chemical bond CO{\rm{C}} - {\rm{O}} , electronegativity of carbon is 2.5 and for oxygen it is 3.5.

Bond polarity will be towards the oxygen atom.

In the chemical bond OCl{\rm{O}} - {\rm{Cl}} , electronegativity of chlorine is 3.0 and for oxygen it is 3.5.

Bond polarity will be towards the oxygen atom.

In the OF{\rm{O}} - {\rm{F}} chemical bond, electronegativity of fluorine is 4.0 and for oxygen it is 3.5.

Bond polarity will be towards the fluorine atom.

In the chemical bond CN{\rm{C}} - {\rm{N}} , electronegativity of carbon is 2.5 and for nitrogen it is 3.0.

So, bond polarity will be towards the oxygen atom.

In the chemical bond ClC{\rm{Cl}} - {\rm{C}} , electronegativity of carbon is 2.5 and for chlorine it is 3.0.

So, bond polarity will be towards the chlorine atom.

In the chemical bond SH{\rm{S}} - {\rm{H}} , electronegativity of sulfur is 2.6 and for hydrogen it is 2.1.

So, bond polarity will be towards the sulfur atom.

In the chemical bond SCl{\rm{S}} - {\rm{Cl}} , electronegativity of sulfur is 2.6 and for chlorine it is 3.0.

So, bond polarity will be towards the sulfur atom.
