1) The sodium ,potassium levels are low and the chloride level is at the lower level of normal.
2) To correct the dehydration, normal saline or ringer lactate infusion should be ordered.
3)If the symptoms persist then hypokalemia can lead to
Muscle weakness
ventricular fibrillation
Less amount of potassium in the extracellular fluid will lead to increased excitation of the heart leading to fibrillations.Since the fibrillations do not supply blood to the heart in optimum quantity,it can lead to death.
4)To prevent the dehydration,the client should be educated to take ORS (Oral rehydration solution) and should be instructed about how to use it.
