8. (5 pts) For the following compound, state how many 1H NMR signals are present, and the splitting pattern for each signal.

Hb would be a doublet of quartet splitting. There are two different kinds of adjacent protons (C-H of the methyl group and C-H of Vinyl group). When there are n equivalent hydrogen protons, the peak is split in to (n+1) peaks. Thus the Hb peak gets split in to a quartet by the three hydrogens of Methyl group. This quartet is split in to two by the hydrogen of the vinyl group to give a doublet of a quartet.
