the speed of disk with mass m is v

the speed of disk with mass 2m is v/2

let the final speed of the combination be v'

using conservation of momentum

m * v + (2m) * ( v/2) = (m + 2m) * v'

v' = 2/3 v

the kinetic energy of the composite body after the impact , KEf = 0.5 * ( m + 2m) * v^2

KEf = 0.5 * 3 m * ( 2/3 v)^2

KEf = 2/3 m * v^2
