22)Plastic deformation is due to the motion of a large number of dislocations So, Strengthening consists in hindering dislocation motion. Grain boundaries impede the movement of dislocations and thereby have a strengthening effect.

Polycrystalline metals are not homogeneous, so they have microstructural defects, i.e., dislocations in comparison to single crystalline metals(homogeneous). Hence Single crystalline metals have more strength than the polycrystalline metals.
