Tatomic number of P is 15

Electrons are filled in different orbitals in increasing order of their energy.

The order of energy of different otbitals is 1s < 2s <2p <3s <3p <4s<3d<4p<5s......

We have a total of 15 electrons to fill in different orbitals. The atomic number of Ne is 10 and we can fill 10 electrons upto Ne. The rest 5 electrons can be filled in 3s (can contain a maximum of 2 electrons) and 3p (contains the rest 3 electrons).

Hence its electronic configuration of P is [Ne]3s2 3p3
