Following image shows the step for the conversion of the starting material to the final product through 6 steps.

in the first step NaOCH3 is the base which takes the proton from the methylene carbon and forms the anion which attacks the another reagent in which Br is attached to the carbon chain so the anion replaces the Br from it

then again the NaOCH3 base is used to take off the second hydrogen and form anion which reacts to replace the second Br and form cyclic ring.

Then LiAlH4 is used to reduce the ester group to the alcohol group and then in the final step the diol reacts with acetone to form the final product
