My Sister’s Keeper tells about Anna Fitzgerald’s life. She was born by using genetic engineering in vitro system for saving her sister’s (Kate Fitzgerald) life. Kate Fitzgerald had been ill since her childhood. She had got acute promyelocytic leukemia.

Before Anna was born, Brian and Sara (the parents) wanted to save Kate’s life. Doctor suggested doing a genetic engineering in vitro system to get a suitable donor. And Anna was born intentionally through the system. Since she was child, she forced to give her blood, granulocytes and lymphocytes. And she had to give her kidney to Kate because Kate’s kidney was not able to be used anymore.

Anna and his brother sold the jewelry to ask a lawyer’s help. They went to a lawyer, Attorney Campbell Alexander to sue her parents. The lawyer felt touched because he has the same condition as Anna. He couldn’t control his body because he got epilepsy.

Anna parents were shocked receiving the letter from the lawyer. Her mother was really angry at her for suing them. But she still had to attend the jurisdiction proses. In the court, Jesse Fitzgerald (Anna’s brother) said that actually Anna was asked by Kate. Kate felt that she had not had a hope for a life anymore. She also wanted to follow her boyfriend (Taylor) who was died before her because of cancer. And her father felt it too. They all were shocked after hearing it. But, the judge still couldn’t decide “the winner”.

Jesse reveals that Anna is actually acting under Kate's instruction; Kate, not wanting to live any longer, had persuaded Anna to refuse to donate her kidney. Anna had wanted to give Kate her kidney and had been upset at Kate's decision. Sara is finally forced to acknowledge what Kate has been trying to tell her all this time: she is ready to die. Later that day, Kate dies in her sleep, with her mother by her side. After her death, Campbell states that Anna has won the case. The family moves on with their lives. Sara, who gave up practicing law to look after Kate, returns to work, Brian retires from firefighting and counsels troubled youths, and Jesse receives an arts scholarship in New York. Anna reveals that every year on Kate's birthday they go to Montana, which was her "most favorite place in the world". She concludes that she was not born merely to save her sister, she was born because she had a sister, and that their relationship continues even in death.

The day before the kidney’s surgery, Kate wanted to talk to her mother about what actually she wanted. Kate said to her mother that she should be sincere if she died. But, her mother still couldn’t let her go. Her mother was crying and accompanied her to sleep. And Kate died in that night.

After Kate died, the lawyer gave the judge decision and told Anna that she won that case. Everybody felt sad, but they still continue their life. Every year, they went to Montana, the Kate’s favorite place.
