m = actual mass = 67 kg

m' = mass shown by the scale = 95 kg

Fn = scale reading or weight shown by the scale = m'g = 95 x 9.8 = 931 N

a = acceleration

force equation for the motion is given as

Fn - mg = ma

931 - (67)(9.8) = (67) a

a = 4.1 m/s2

b)

since the acceleration is positive , hence the direction is upward
