Answer #1

a. During my current clinical placement, I am placed in a childcare ward. I am assigned with the duty of providing care to a 6-year-old child suffering from autism spectrum disorder. The child has significant difficulty in communicating his needs, and he faces difficulty in understanding and learning new things.

b. Autism is the prime concern for the patient. However, the major problematic cause for the child has reduced the ability to speak and learn things. He also feels difficulty in communicating his needs to the nurses. The aspects of cognitive development and speech and language development will basically be developed in his care.

c. An adult can follow strategies involving effective communication and visual learning classes. Too many questions from patients suffering from autism can impact their development, hence the adults can ease the communication, and use soft-spoken language with eye contact with the child. It has been said that visual learning can be effective for the cognitive development of the child suffering from Autism, hence the approach of visual learning can be followed.

d. A teach-back process will be followed to evaluate the improvements in the child. He will be asked about any new learnings gained from the visual learning approach. If the child will be effective to tel about his learnings, then the interventions can be counted as effective. Since autistic patients have difficulty in talking, so he will be given proper time, and support while teaching back the learnings.

e. a strategy of patient-centered care involving the views, and suggestions from the parents of the child can be used for the child. Developing trust within the child can help him interact, and communicate properly with the nurse.
