You plan to buy a telescope to allow you to see Jupiter’s Great Red Spot (GRS)? What is the
smallest telescope aperture that will allow to do so (assume that the GRS can fit 3 Earth-size
planets)?

The aperture would depend so much on the other factors like focal ratio, refractor, magnification, PPI( power per inch), exposure time etc.

Although we can see the Spot in a 4-inch telescope, a 6-inch telescope with 90mm-100mm refractor will probably be required for this project as we’ll need a magnification of 200x or more.

This project requires a little planning as you’ll need to work out when the Great Red Spot is visible.

so, I would say 4 inch is the least aperture you will need.
