u = 40-1 = 39cm, v = 400-1 = 399cm, 1/f = 1/-1/u = (1/- 399) – (1/ – 39) = 2.21 diopter.

For farsightedness, a person object should be placed at the location of minimum far sight. Since 40cm location should be observed at 400cm.

The value of power comes out to be positive. since optometrist suggests 2.21 D, converging lens.
